ReadyNAS 516 - Virtualbox with 64bit OS

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone with a new ReadyNAS 516 has managed to get virtualbox and a 64bit OS working?
Reading here, Chirpa says it wasn't working in October last year as it is disabled in the BIOS and any changes to the BIOS seems to result in a big fail.

On a second note has anyone set up a NAS with a hybrid SSHD?
Worth the little extra or a waste of time?

Cheers

  • I received this reply from Netgear presale support.

An L3 Support Engineer ran a test on a RN516, and enabling vt-x appears to be fine. He didn’t
Test to see if the extensions are there, but enabling didn’t cause the unit to stop
Booting. Also, he did make it very clear that because this is a BIOS level change, that
There is a denial of support policy that can take effect. I hope this helps answer your question.

So that is some good news and I have taken the plunge and ordered one with 6xWD Red's. I was very tempted to get the 7200RPM HGST drives but they were not on the HCL.
