If you use disks outside our compatibility list support would be unable to help if you run into issues. So do make sure you have an up to date backup.
What RAID level are you using?
There are two expansion limits:
1. You can't expand your volume online by more than 8TB over the life of the volume. So if your volume capacity was 2.7TB when you last did a factory default you cannot expand past 10.7TB
2. You can't expand past 16TB. You have to do a factory default with the disks in place.
So considering the above you will need to
1. Backup your data (you should do this regularly anyway)
2. Power down, remove disks (label order)
3. Put new 5TB disks in
4. Do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything)
5. Restore your data from backup
OS6 on x86 hardware doesn't have the expansion limitations that OS4 has.
