When this happens, it doesn't respond to any of the protocols listed above and won't reply to pings. It appears to have disappeared from the network, except the device physically looks fine (activity lights on the network look fine.) When I shut it down via the physical switch and reboot it, it comes back without a problem. There is no indication that it has suffered an error.
I had the same condition outside of a minor difference with my NV+ v2. Mine would drop when I was transferring files to/from the NAS at faster speeds. Doing such on my 100Mbps network worked great however using an attached USB drive or direct connecting a PC/Mac it would drop regularly.
In my case it proved to be a non-compatible drive (it was listed as supported and later removed). The moment I swapped drives all was fine. Any chance you could try transferrings files slower?
