I bought a new external harddrive and copied the data off through the USB port. The unit disconnects from the network but the copy continues. However, I was only getting USB 1 speeds so I had to let it run for a long time (weeks) and wasn't able to check on the progress. I haven't had a chance to go back and see if it finished copying.
