ReadyNAS Duo unexpected behavior after disk failure

Two question.

The Seagate disk that came with my ReadyNAS duo died (it has been reporting errors). However this rendered the whole device unavailable (disappeared as a shared drive although i could ping it). Even though the mirrored disk is perfectly healthy. I had to remove the bad drive in order for the device to be available again. Is this expected behavior. I have 4.1.6.

Secondly how much is the manufactures warranty for the Seagate Pipline HD .2 that came with it? Would i be able to call Seagate directly and ask for replacement if i qualify for one?

Regards,

  • How long have you had the Duo?

    What is the disk model?

Have you downloaded SeaTools and run the long generic test?

That test is necessary in most cases to return the drive to Seagate. If you run SeaTools and it fails you will get a failure code. You can then register the drive with Seagate, and file for an RMA.

You can contact tech support since the drive came with the Duo. They may replace the drive, or they may refer you to Seagate. If you return the drive to Seagate, they will most likely replace it with a refurbished drive. Most of us prefer not to use refurbished drives, but I have one in service (but a good backup program that is automatically updated every night).
