ReadyNAS Duo V2 - 3TB external USB drive

This may have been covered elsewhere but is the ReadyNAS Duo V2 compatible with ANY 3TB external drives for backup purposes?

The Duo V2 can work with 3TB drives but there appears to be an issue regarding external USB drives large enough to carry out a backup of more than 2TB.

My Duo has 2 x Seagate 3TB internal drives and I have been using WD Elements 2TB external drives for backup. I am now at the point where I need a larger (ie 3TB) drive for backup as my data is almost in excess of 2TB.

I have tried the WD Elements 3TB but the drive is not recognised by the NAS, even though it is the same model as the 2TB version. I gather that there are several other 3TB drives which are also not compatible and there is no formal compatibility list?

So I (and there must be others) am in a situation where my data exceeds 2TB on the NAS but I'm struggling to buy an external drive sufficiently large to perform a backup which I can use with my NAS.
