Jul 15, 2020ReadyNas Duo V2 locksup
Hi Fellow members
I think my ReadyNas Duo V2 that has been a trusted servent over the last few years is starting to give up, even with the purchase of some new hard drives :-(
For a while now I have been having some trouble where the ReadyNAS just locks up.
Unable to access the admin console on the https://IPaddress/admin
Unable to putty, receive a message to say connection refused.
Lose all access to SMB media shares created
Lose access to media content
Also pressing or holding the power button makes no difference, the only way is to unplug from the back or at the socket. This obviouslly creates an issue with the disk stats.
Powering back on restores the service only for it to happen a few days/weeks later.
The readynas primary role is to stream low end video to a TV or access files using a SMB share on a Windows device. Its not very taxing at all so confused why this lock up keeps happening.
The firmware and RaidR and other bits and bobs are all on the latest releases (which are pretty old now as its EOL). I also tried to factory default the device in the hope it might resolve but it hasnt.
I am out of luck, is there any logs I could get of there which might provide some clues on the issue which I could post on the forum? I really appreciate any help on this. I really dont want to dispose of it but at the same time I need something reliable.
Thanks and much appreciated in advance for support.

You could download the full log zip file from the NAS web UI (ideally shortly after a lockup). Then put it into cloud storage (google drive, dropbox, etc).
Then ask the mods ( JohnCM_S or Marc_V ) to analyze them for you. Send them a private message (PM) using the envelope icon in the upper right of the forum page. Include a download link in your PM.

Do you even get a response to a ping? Is there any activity of the NIC LEDs?
One possibility is a failing power supply. Are you certain the device is a V2 (says so on the front, external power brick, runs OS 5.x)? That makes a difference in troubleshooting steps. It may sound like a strange question, but Netgear used the designation "V2" in two different ways, and many who think they have a V2 really have a V1. Far more V1's were sold than V2's.

Thanks for the responses.
Yes I can confirm its a V2 as it says on the front, ReadyNas Duo v2. It also has an external power block.
Forgot to mention when I ping the device, I do get a respose and this is consistent with no drop offs.
In terms of firmware it runs the RAIDiator 5.3.13 which is the latest version for this model.
I will also download the logs, thanks again for the input, much appreciated.
