ReadyNas Duo V2 USB Sound Card

Hello

I would like to connect a USB sound card to my readynas duo v2. The aim is clearly to be able to play some sound from the NAS to my player with the mean of a jack link connection. I know that I can stream my media over the network but this is not an option for me.

So i bought a "3d sound card" , it is plug & play compatible. I put it on the NAS, for my bad THERE IS NO SOUND! Normal right ? I can tell that I am expecting something like this. With a ssh connection and with the command "lsusb" through a console, I can see that my usb sound card is listed right there. therefore I came to the conclusion that maybe sound devices are not supported by the readynas duo v2. One option I found is to recompile the kernel and add sound support as module. But this is deep and I do not have the skills needed to investigate further in this direction

Did anyone ever try to get usb sound card support from readynas duo v2 ? Your help is welcome ;-)

Thanks in advance

  • I'm currently trying the same with a readynas 102,
but yes there is no other way then to compile the kernel modules yourself...

there are a couple of instructions out there how to do so, but in the end I ran into some additional trouble and am not done yet...

if you know someone else who has a readynas duo v2 he could compile the modules for you, other then that... no chance
  • Hello Thrass,

Thanks for your reply, Its is crazy that there is not so much information about that... Maybe in futur They should think about letting the sound module ON ;-)
  • I manage to make the compilation and install the module, procedure taken from
    http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=61970
. But now I am going through another problem.

    When I try to play, let's say a mp3 file I get this :

ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1401:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card
audio: No such file or directory

The commands I have done just after installing the sound module for the kernel were :

    mknod /dev/dsp c 14 3
    mknod /dev/mixer c 14 0
    modprobe snd-pcm-oss
    modprobe snd-usb-audio
