ReadyNAS NV+ Locking up not long after boot

This just started tonight, I was copying a 20gb file to my computer and it stopped responding on me. I let it be for a while, but i couldnt turn the lcd backlight on by hitting the power button. I figured i would powercycle it after a good 30 minutes of waiting. It comes up with no problems but i cannot access the admin interface it just goes really slow with trying to load it and never fully loads. It will eventually lock up again after 5-10 minutes to where you cannot turn on/off the lcd backlight. All lights and everything show being ok, during boot and when its running fine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i could at least pull a log file to see if it shows anything?

  • Well, appears to be a HDD issue as I did notice ~700 ATA errors on a drive, I pulled it and everything came up.

    Yes. That's a huge ATA error count. Did you not get email alerts that the ATA error count was rising on that drive?
  • I may have, had I had everything set up to do so. Will definitely turn that on.

    It should show in the status log if errors were detected. On the NV+ (v1) this would be under Status > Logs in Frontview. I recommend configuring the SMTP settings for Using Gmail with the ReadyNAS
  • Yes after i was able to get into Frontview you could see them. Until pulling the drive i was not able to get into frontview. SMTP is now set up.
  • Now would be a good time to back up your system, at least the data that you consider critical or important. You volume is degraded (missing one drive) so you have NO room for error. If you encounter a problem with another drive you can and probably will lose data.
