Readynas NV+, stuck in FS 35%
The NAS has four disks, disk 1&2 (volume 1) disk 3&4 (volume 2). Disk 2 failed so I replaced it with the same disk, Seagate ST31000528AS. Upon insertion of disk 2, it starts to check the file system then hangs up on 35%. If I remove disk 2, it starts normally. What am I doing wrong. While in the stuck mode, I cannot gain access to the unit to see what the problem is.
Any help will be greatly apprected.

Sounds to me like the replacement disk is bad. If you like, you could test it in a PC using Seatools (connecting it either with SATA or a USB adapter/dock).
Since this disk model was launched in 2009, you either got very old inventory or a used disk. Either way, that makes it very likely that the disk will have issues. I suggest exchanging it with a new 1 TB Seagate Ironwolf instead. It is compatible with your NAS, and you can mix/match models.

Hi, thank you for the reply. I also thought that the disk might be bad so I checked it with Seatools and it came back good. I know the drive is old, but supposedly this was old new stock. I have other 1TB drives on hand, like the WD10EZRX to try.

FWIW, I run the long (non-destructive) test, followed by the full erase test. That is because I have had some out-of-the-box drives that passed one of these two tests, but failed the other.
