Well I wouldn't really descibe half a tera-byte of free space as "almost full"!
On the other thread you cite fragmentation as a possible cause - that wouldn't stop small files from being copied over unless there was a serious issue with where it tried to locate the files - it's almost as if there's a space on the drive that is approx 15Mb in size and it writes until this is full and then gets stuck thinking about where to put the next part of the file.
