ReadyNAS NV+ V2 HDD Locked
I appreciate that there are other strings on this forum that deal with locked HDDs however NONE give a public solution. I am completely lost as to how to unlock the 4 HDD that are locked in my NAS. ...

I am receiving two email messages upon each reboot.
1. Missing shares detected (nas-A0-A0-5B)
The paths for the shares listed below could not be found. Typically, this occurs when the ReadyNAS is unable to access the data volume.

2. Volume scan failed to run properly. (nas-A0-A0-5B)

Possibly non-existent device?

Tried to unlock using PuTTY however could not establish a connection with the NAS.
Removed drives (after power down) and access them directly on another computer however the drives do not show up.
I can only conclude that this is due to the drives being locked therefore they are prevented from booting even out of the NAS.
I will search through a couple of old desktop computers that I have and hope that one has an old version of BIOS that allows drive format etc.
The NAS has hardly been used and I was intending on using it to back up my photography images so the unit would again only be powered up occasionally.
Any further advice very welcome.

If you have a scratch disk, you could do a fresh install using that disk in the v2 (by itself).
Then enable ssh, and hot-insert the locked disk.
You should then be able to unlock it with hdparm.

I'm not totally competent with hdparm unfortunately.
I do know what you are meaning however I can't recall how to get hdparm up and running but from a command prompt, I could simply unlock them with the string that was posted. It is just getting to a point where I can enter that string while my OS is Win10 which I believe doesn't play well with hdparm.
I did get the drives to show on Win10 by using a USB cable kit that I have but could not go any further as it requires them to be initalised and that is being prevented by them being locked.- StephenBJan 09, 2018Guru - Experienced User
The idea was to install a temporary (unlocked) disk in the NAS and do a factory install. Then enable ssh.
Then you can add a locked disk, and unlock it in the NAS (using ssh to access the linux command line). You could then do this with the second disk.
It is likely also possible to do this by booting your NAS into tech support mode.

I will try booting into support mode.
