ReadyNAS NV+ V2 support for drives over 3 TB
One reason I opted to buy the NV+ V2 is for its support for 3 TB drives as opposed to the older NV+ limit at 2 TB. But I'm wondering if 3 TB is the theoretical limit for the newer model, or if it'll b...
the 2tb limit is because of MBR limits.
the GPT partitions support over 2tb, which support up in the zetabyte range.
that said, there filesystem and expansion limitations which are not yet resolved;
8tb lifetime expansion limit
16tb expansion cap
volumes over 16tb must be created from scratch (ie factory default)
volumes under 16tb can be expanded up to 16tb, assuming you don't run into the 8tb expansion limit.
both of these limitations are due to issues with the linux technology used; ext4, 32bit partitioning/expansion tools and are not readynas specific.
