Could be a chassis failure I guess.
Have you tried doing a test install on a 2 TB drive in slot 1? Then power down the NAS, and see if you can boot the NAS with that disk in other slots?

I have 4 500GB disks loaded. It only sees 2. I swapped disks. It sees all 4, but only two slots are active. Two slots damaged, i.e. slot 3 and 4??

I suggest trying the test above - note you can use any disk of 2 TB or less.

Always the same two, or it will only handle two drives (in any two slots)?
If the former, probably a bad SATA backplane, but could be the SATA controller on the main board as well. Not repairable except by replacing the bad board.
If the latter, a power issue. But IMHO, replacing the power supply in an NV+ isn't worth the investment.
