While any experienced user of computing devices that has been inside the devices (I have built most of my desktop PCs for the last 20 years) would much rather get a replacement component and do the replacement themselves, unfortunately the experience of most companies is that we are a small minority. The rest are either those who would rather have a device that they just plug in and turn on, or those who have no idea what they are looking at when the open the case.
For that reason, the companies would rather simply replace the unit with a refurbished one that deal with the mess created by someone who has never opened a case before and messes up the replacement.
