readynas ultra 6 won't boot
I have a ReadyNAS ultra 6 that won;t boot past the "ReadyNAS" logo unless I take the disks out. Then it boots to "no disks." I can get to the boot menu, but only when the drive bays are empty. I read...

It sounds like the most likely possibility to me.
Though I guess you could run the memory test.
Also, if you have a spare disk you could try doing a factory install with just that disk in place.

If I reset to factory defaults with a spare disk, should I have any trouble reading the original volume?

No. All the settings are on the current disks (as well as the OS partition that the system boots from).

I reloaded the firmware and ran a memory check and a disk check. I had to boot it to the boot menu with no drives, then put the drives in and ran the disk check. When it finished it booted normally.

It may have been something on the drives (htough i don't know why what you did would fix that), or your power supply could be on its last legs (nd it's hit or miss to overcome the extra load of power-on). The NAS will display "ReadyNAS" if just the +5V is working. A bad 3.3V or +12V could keep it from booting. That removing the drives helped suggests the +12V, since the drives use that and not 3.3V.
I'd make sure you keep your backup up to date and be prepared for the possibility of it occurring again, possibly not recoverable next time.
