I have both the EZRS and the EZRX. Both generate LCCs at a pretty high rate in my Pro-6. AFAIK there is no fix apart from the hack. Whether that hack is a good idea is a matter of opinion.
I don't have the ST3000DM001, though there are quite a few posts on those drives in the forum, including several recent ones. Of course folks without problems don't tend to post.
BTW, there appears to at least one hardware difference in the red drives (the vibration reduction). Though I think the longer warranty is also one reason for the higher cost.
