Replacement Disk Requested: soliciting assistance

Hello,

Hopefully I am using this resource correctly. Can someone here assist me in ordering a replacement disk for our ReadyNAS appliance?
I would like to request a replacement disk for our NETGEAR ReadyNAS.

We received a notification indicating a failed disk on the ReadyNAS.
Upon logging into the admin interface, it was discovered that disk 3 is "DEAD".

I would like to request a replacement disk.
I collected the logs but do not see a way to attach them to this issue?

The failed disk is:
Seagate ST31000340NS 931 GB , 1 C / 33 F

This is a user forum btw, not netgear support.

If you purchased the NAS with disks from Netgear, then it is possible that Netgear is on the hook to replace them. If that is the case, you can contact netgear support at http://support.netgear.com/. The pro has a 5 year warranty (if you were the original purchaser). I'm not sure what warranty they offer for the models with disks (I purchased mine diskless).

I suggest replacing the drive with a WD10EFRX. That drive is designed for NAS, and is on the Pro's Hardware Compatibility list. It has a 3 year warranty, and is intended for NAS use. It is not a 7200 RPM drive, but I don't think you will see any performance dropoff.

If your unit is still covered by warranty, you want to stay with the Netgear HCL. They will deny support if you pick a drive that isn't on it. The HCL is here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20641 Select "legacy" first, then "ReadyNAS Pro 6"

You will see that the HCL is loaded with out-of-production models. One reason I suggest the WD10EFRX is that is a newer drive, and generally people here have had good experiences with the WDC "Red" drives. I have several WD30EFRX in my own pro6, and are quite happy with them.

Once you have a new drive, it is best to hot-insert it (e.g. replace it with the NAS is running). Make sure you swap the drive in the correct slot! The volume will fail if you don't. Also if you don't have a backup, you should make one while you are waiting for a replacement.
