Replacing HDD RN104 which one is bay 3?
I have received this warning a number of times and it looks like 1 drive is heading for failure.
It says disk 3 is heading for failure
"Disk: Detected high uncorrectable error count: [14776] on disk 3 (Internal) [ST3000DM001-1ER166, Z500G723]. This condition often indicates an impending failure. Be prepared to replace this disk to maintain data redundancy."
When I look in my Volumes it shows all hdd green. So which is 3? 3 from the left or from the right?
And to install it can it be hot or should I power down and swap out?
It is counted from the left. You can power down the system, remove the disk, and confirm it by checking the serial number.
Generally I recommend hot insertion for replacement, but power-down insertion also works.
I suggest replacing it with either a WD Red drive or a Seagate Ironwolf drive. Generally NAS-purposed drives work better than desktop drives with RAID, and a lot of folks here (and elsewhere) have had problems with the ST3000DM001 drive in particular.
