resinch a dieing disk or add new disk & resinch?

FYI, Acronis Disk Monitor is a freeware tool that will show you the SMART stats. There are others. Of course the NAS will also show them to you.
Generally the vendor diags have a fairly high threshold set - minimizing their returns. I use lower thresholds (double digits on reallocated sectors+pending sectors is concerning, anything above 50 is replaced, anything that is rapidly climbing is replaced).
