XR500 Ethernet ports die randomly?
So I contacted NetGear within the first 30 days of using the router with an issue where the ethernet ports stop connecting randomly. They instructed me to manually reapply the updated the firmware (2.2.1.10) and to ping the network. After we did this it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Now the ethernet ports stop working daily and when I reset the router they work for a while but it is quite a hassle. Wifi in the house works perfectly fine and we have noticed no issues, seems to be a problem with just the wired connection. I put in another support ticket almost a week ago with no response.

- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerI've sent you a PM with a firmware that may resolve the issue.

I uploaded the firmware and everything seems fine so far. It said that it was an older firmware, should I not update my firmware any further at this time? Is it just a software issue and not a phyiscal issue for the router?
- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerI'd leave it on the firmware I gave you for now if the issue was happening that frequently. The fix I believe will be coming in the next firmware release. Software as far as I'm aware.
- I am having the same problem my wifi works great but I have to reset my router sometime twice a day to get my ethernet ports to work.
CCOPELAND, welcome to the party. Most likely you have an XBox that is set to instant on within your network. You have two choices to solve the problem at present: 1. Disable the Instant On mode from your XBox. 2. Put a switch such as (NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Switch (GS605NA)) between your XBox and your XR500. The XBox's Instant On Mode is causing an internal conflict on the XR500 that disables the LAN ports. Either one of the two options will correct your problem.
I have a similar issue that when I have my xbox in instant on I lose my wired connection to my XR500. The only way to get the connection back is to reboot the router.
- ErikEGuideTurning off instant on fixed my problem entirely.
- Netduma-FraserNetDuma PartnerI've sent you a PM CooL with firmware to try
- MikeyJAspirantCan you send me the firmware aswell or tell us all where to find it at? Thanks in advance

I am having the same problem as everyone else, replaced the router via RMA. The new XR500 that I received worked for a few months and then started doing the LAN port shutdown again. I have tried going back to previous firmware (from Support), up to current and still no effect. I've tried checking the Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection in the WAN Setup because I always get a slew of DoS Attacks listing in my logs, which are coming from IPs assigned to Microsoft, Bungie, Blizzard, Steam, UPlay, etc. These are all known and good, so why is the Duma OS flagging traffic as an attack??? I would greatly appreciate any ideas because I'm out of them.
- LevelUpLiam24ApprenticeHey all,
Just checking to see if we have an update coming? I don't want to be some one that keeps repeating themselves and I know updates take time. However, living with the temporary fix for the Xbox means having to manually update all of my games when I turn it on, rather than have them update in the background. It's become a bigger annoyance than I thought it would.
Thanks so much.I had this router last year and I was having this exact same issue. I took it back. I have an XBox One as well, but mine is wireless and I was still having this issue. I am possibly in the market for a new router and want to give this one a try again, but not if I am going to have the same issues. I can't believe this is still an issue. Has there been ANY progress made on getting the Ethernet ports to stop crapping out? I have 2 wired devices connected to my current router. My main PC and then another router which is for my home security system. It doesn't do any routing or anything like that. Do the newer version of the XR Nighthawk routers also suffer from this issue?
- LevelUpLiam24ApprenticeI had absolutely no idea this issue has been ongoing for so long!! That's really quite a concern. I'm intrigued if the other models also suffer from this problem. But would be reluctant to buy one since I just got the XR500.
- blw4fTutorThe absolute best solution at this time is to introduce an Ethernet switch between the Xbox and the router. Then you can put your Xbox back on instant on.
I have had zero issues since I went that route. They are still working on a solution but tbh, the solution will probably only be fixed for the next generation consoles. Therefore the switch is your best bet- LevelUpLiam24ApprenticeI went ahead and purchased the GS305P Switch. Which has resolved the problem!
However, I've noticed that now the Xbox isn't automatically updating games/apps in the background. I've ensured that I have all the settings on the Xbox correct, and have never encountered this issue before. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the issue?

Instant ON needs to be disabled unless you have a switch in the mix. This has cause problems from day one of the xbox one console. MS still has not fixed it.
Furry, how is this a Microsoft problem? I never had this issue with my R7000. I have two friends that have R7000s that have XBoxs in Instant On mode and they have never had this issue. It's only with the XR500 Pro GAMING Router. Seems kind of ironic to have such a big problem with a game console on a gaming router.

It's plagues other Mfr routers as well. Not just NG. Possible that code in R7000s handles it's better than XRs. Those I haven't seen this on my XR450 which has same HW accept for 2.4Ghz wifi. This is a MS issue. NG and MS need to collaborate to ensure that both router FW and MS Instant ON plays well with each other wiht out a need for a switch however the switch is a work around. This is a MS issue.

I am using the hotfix and it keeps happening to me... i must say this is super frustrating to buy such an expensive router and have it fail with the most reliable feature it should have.
And with all do respect telling people to turn instant-on and automatic updates is not a solution, and quite frankly it doesn't always help at all.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
What happens if you put a external network Gb LAN switch between the XR router and your LAN devices? https://www.netgear.com/support/product/GS105.aspx
Seen others post that this helps there odd disconnections with game consoles and the XR router.
Have you setup IP address reservations for your LAN devices ON the router?

I realise it is a frustrating issue and rest assured it is being worked on. Have you tried the workaround above?

I don't see this problem on my XR router. Possible the router the user has is faulty. Not everyone sees this issue on there XR router.

Would be great to receive it and maybe finally have my router login, I have no option for RMA in my country so i am stuck with the issues... and saying oh this is a temporary solution doesn't apply when it takes a whole YEAR! to fix something...
But i really do wish this circus will end and that this firmware will solve all of this problems.
