You might check the SMART logs for each drive. If nothing shows up there, when the resync is finished. Shut the NAS down normally with the power button. The remove each drive separately and attach to an SATA port on the motherboard of your PC and runs SeaTools. You can run the short drive self test, but I generally just run the long generic. It will take about 2 hours to run the tests, so you want to plan for the outage of your Duo.
You may also want to connect the old drives to your PC and back up all the data that will fit on the drive. This can easily be done by copy/paste across the network. Remember, it's better to have a current and complete backup and not need it, than need it and not have it.
