All the mounting holes won't line up, but it's compatible. The toolless mouting won't work at all. Using just the two screws that line up is typically sufficient -- just don't ship it that way.
That is not a current model NAS, so I assume you are buying used. Do be aware that Netgear warranties are not transferrable.

I've had this unit for 5 years now, yes the mounting holes didn't line up when I upgraded to 10TB drives last year, but made modifications to suit, then went from 4 screws to 2 screws to secure, so the 16TB drives are the same layout as the current 10TB drives, so guess it's ok to proceed?

Also, would moving a JBOD volume disk to another channel lose data?

It should be fine, just remove the plastic inserts and use the mounting holes that align on the bottom.

You can shift it to another bay when the NAS is powered down. Don't do it with the NAS running.
