RN104 firmware issues
Different entries in the Netgear support-Portal specify different dependencies on RN104-Firmware. Currently I have 6.2.4 installed. Next problem : to find the different firmware-versions on the road ...

This guidance from 6.7.5 release notes) looks safe:
- ReadyNAS 102, 104, and 2120 must not be updated directly to 6.7.x from 6.3.x or older firmware. They must first be updated to either 6.2.5 or 6.3.5 then to 6.5.2...
6.2.5: https://kb.netgear.com/29498/ReadyNAS-OS-Version-6-2-5-RN102-RN104-Only
6.5.2: https://kb.netgear.com/31116/ReadyNAS-OS-Version-6-5-2
Try the firmware update facility, and see if it offers 6.2.5 or 6.3.5 first (then give us the results).

Thanks for the fast reply! What do mean with "firmware update facility"?
Clicking on "Checking for Update" in the Firmware row on the "System" Page of RN104-Admin page let the system somewhat doing but nothing really happens!

Check for Update is what I meant. Is your NAS configured so it can reach the internet?
One common error: many people configure the NAS to use a static IP address, but forget to set the DNS server(s).

Meanwhile i've managed (this device and his firmware gives me really a hard time) the stepwise update to 6.5.2; But now I encountered problems to connect to the Admin page although RAIDar says: Status intakt.
In writing this, all of a sudden I connected to the admin page - obviously you must very patient.

trying "Check for Update" resulted in an "Timeout"-error msg. I then downloaded 6.7.5 firmware unpacked it and uploaded the img-file to my RN104: This resulted in an "unexpected server error";
(by the way these were the steps i did for 6.2.5- and 6.5.2- upgrade); now i hesitate to run restart on my RN104 (because i canceld the erraneous upload of 6.5.2 and reuploaded 6.7.5 img-file )
Can you give me some advice for the DNS-setting?

The unexpected server error is just a bug. If you restart the NAS it should install it anyway. But I'm not sure why you installed 6.7.5 instead of 6.8.0.

Are you using a static IP address or DHCP? If your router supports address reservation (sometimes called ARP binding), you are better off using DHCP and reserving the IP address in the router.
If you need static IP, then there are a couple of options:
- With some routers, you can set the DNS server to be the router LAN address
- Otherwise you can set the DNS server(s) to match the ones shown in your router
- 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 also work (they are google's public DNS servers).
