RN204 and Windows XP

Hi -

Im new a network guy - but am trying to help a friend out

windows X machine, cant see the NAS (RN204)...

other machines in his office can (win7 and win10)... so, i think RN204 is set up properly.

is there something on the NAS setup that I tell it my friend's machine (static IP - 192.168.168.110) or something on my friend's machine that I tell it about he NAS (192.168.1.7)

I can be reached directly at XXXX or YYYYY@ZZZZ.com, if those are options.

Thank you

Al

Is the issue about discovery or access?

That is, if you enter \\nas-ip-address in the Windows Explorer address bar, does it show you the share list?

      Thanks for your reply -

its discovery and access - as I cant see any of it

when I enter \\192.168.1.7 (NAS address) - it returns a not found.

I figure its some network setting on the XP computer ...

      any ideas?

      thanks

What happens if you open a dos box and enter

        net use * /delete

        net use t: \\192.168.1.7\data /user:admin nas-admin-password

Be careful on slash directoin and spaces.

  • Hi,

I notice that one IP addresses is 192.168.168.110, and the other is 192.168.1.7. Now assuming that you are using /24 subnet masks (255.255.255.0), you should check your default gateways to be able to communicate (or route) between different subnets.

Can you ping the NAS from the XP machine? Can you ping the XP machines's default gateway. Is it actually configured?

    Good luck,

    Ian Neill

Good catch, somehow I missed that.

These machines are on the same local network???    If so, can you let us know what the subnet masks are on PC and the NAS?

I agree that trying ping is a good step.

        Thank you -

I figured it out - it wasnt a NAS issue at all -

well, it was a router setup issue -

I didnt mention that my friend changed internet providers - from DSL to cable - and I needed to re-setup the router...

Kept pinging machines and came to that realization

        Thank you
