RN314 4 TB external HDD showing up as 1.8 TB
Hello, I have a Seagate ST4000DM000 HDD that is on the compatibility list. I tried connecting this drive via USB and eSATA but on both cases, the drive is showing up as only 1.8 TB (actually I think it's less than that for eSATA for some reason). I am running firmware version 6.2.4. I have tried formatting the drive as FAT32 and EXT4 but get the same results. I want to use this drive as a backup drive for over 2 TB of data. How do I get the RN314 to recognize the full volume?

- RXLuminaryIs the Seagate ST4000DM000 HDD new?
If you connect the Seagate ST4000DM000 HDD directly to a PC, is it detect approx. 4TB of capacity?
Try to run a disk check on it using Seagate SeaTools and run an Extended test on it. Check this link: http://www.seagate.com/as/en/support/do ... in-master/ - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFAT32 certainly won't work, it has a max volume size of 2 TB. ext shouldn't have that problem though.
Did you try NTFS? Are you formatting with the NAS or in a PC?
The HCL doesn't apply to external disks btw, only disks you insert into the array. - julesg1TutorNo I did not try NTFS.
I am using a Mac. Disk Utility shows it as less than 2 TB as well. I did not actually try to format using my Mac, I only tried formatting using the NAS.
Sorry, what is HCL? - RXLuminary

It would be best that you try to format your Seagate ST4000DM000 HDD to NTFS format as per StephenB.
HCL stands for Hard drive Compatibility List. You may browse it here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20641 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSounds like you have formatted your USB disk using MBR not GPT.
- julesg1TutorI formatted the drive using the NAS. I would have expected the NAS to format it correctly.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTry formatting the USB disk using the GPT partitioning scheme using your Mac then see if you can reformat it with your NAS.
