What firmware are you running?
There is a disk test in the system - click on the settings wheel on the volume tab to access it.

What ever the most current version is (6.9.3); Disk check has been running for 3 or 4 days so far found nothing. They are 8TB WD NAS RedPros.

That's a long time. My last test took about 13 hours with 4x6TB (WD60EFRX). My array is 25% smaller, but your disks are faster...
If you have ssh enabled, you might want to log in and check the current smart stats with smartctl.

The smart on the front end isnt displaying any errors. could there be errors that are not being displayed?
how do I SSH in? I don't really know Linux.

SMART is useful, but not everything - many drives fail without ever reporting a SMART error.
Do you have disk spindown enabled? That might slow down the test.

Then perhaps postpone that step for now.
If you purchased the NAS new between 1-June-2014 and 31-May-2016 then you have lifetime chat support at my.netgear.com. If that's the case, then it would be a good time to use it.
You could also download the log zip file (if you haven't already), and look in system.log and kernel.log for disk and btrfs errors.
