The plastic holder doesn't want to slide free so I can remove the HHD to replace it,
Maybe try sliding a table knife between the plastic and the front plate, and see if that gives you a bit more leverage. Of course be careful not to break the mount.

Thanks, Stephen, A small flathead screwdriver did the trick. The problem I really had was understanding step #1. Pushing down on the plastic part that unlocks the "nipple". That step was clearly shown on the sticker UNDERNEATH the drive on the plate that holds the drive.
'Netgear how about a sticker on the flip side where it can be easily seen? This in not something I perform on a regular basis making it easier for me to recall. The webpage that shows that step is far inferior to thr sticker.
One more question. Can I dump these toolless plastic holders and use screws? I thought they were so nice when introduced. Now noy so much.

Yes. You should have received screws along with the NAS. If you've lost track of them, you can either search the forum for the specs, or post back and someone can point you to them.

Maybe too obvous, but you are still ptessiong down the release at "1" then you do this, correct? That not only releases the handle to allow removal from the NAS, it releases the plastic slide lock.

It's a different "1" if I understand you correctly. The release to pull out the bracket is no problem. There's a "1" on the side of the plastic holder on the bracket after it's removed from the NAS. Also the button on the front of the NAS (bracket removed) must be in a certain position (I forget which now? to allow the "1" to release the nipple.
Ugh!
Thankfully I don't do this often because the unit is stable. If I ever expanded again in a few years I'll come back to this thread! :)
