RN424 & positions for 2 drives

I intend to install two physical disc drives in my new RN424. Does it matter which of the four bays I install these first two drives into?

One of many aspects of ReadyNAS life that we love to over-think :smileywink:

Spacing them out does no harm, and generally the disks will run a bit cooler if you do that.  But the NAS is designed to run with disks in all four bays, so it works out ok either way.

No. You can put them in whichever disk bays you like. Some like to put them in bays 1 and 2 to keep things organised in a straightforward way, others like to have an empty bay in-between the disks.

While it might look nicer to have them in bays 1 and 2, for cooling purposes it might be better two have them in bays 1 and 4 (preferred) or 2 and 4 or 1 and 3.
