RND 2210 Duo Seagate Disk Error
I have an RND2210, ReadyNas Duo with a pair of 1 TB drives. Disk 1 is now reporting errors on a daily basis. I tried running the SeaTools for windows diagnostic software, but being a network attache...
Steps - to check the drive with SeaTools, shut down the Duo, remove the drive in question and connect it to an SATA port on the motherboard of a Window PC. If you don't have any spare SATA cables, you can connect it using the cables that run to the optical drive and reconnect the optical drive when finished. BTW - SATA drives in a PC are not hot plug so should only be connected/disconnected when the PC is off. Not only does a LAN connection not work, neither does a USB connection.
It if is a Seagate drive, it should be registered with Seagate. Then when you get the failure code from SeaTools you can then go through the RMA request process on line. You will get mailing instructions and mailing labels as part of the process.
DO NOT ship the drive tray and screws with the drive. The bare drive must be sent back and you will have to find a box with foam padding for the drive. (I used an old worn out eggcrate sleeping pad for my padding.)
The best option is to find a replacement drive of the same model if that is possible. If not, any 1TB drive that is on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is acceptable. Some of the drives on the list are not longer in the retail pipeline, as newer models have been released.
