Stephen, you are absolutely spot on, i worked as if they are duo v1 and all went well. the firefox access worked as well.
i am so grateful for your help.
one thing i discovered was that the ip address and all programmed parameters follow the disk volume across machines. i think that also confused things when i was trying to debug the situation.

The IP address follows only if you've set a fixed IP in the NAS. That's usually not the best way to go. Reserving an IP in the router is usually preferred. That way, if you switch routers and the new one doesn't use the same subnet as the old, you don't lose access to the NAS.
