RND2000v2 to what new model can I move the disks?

Have a RedayNAS Duo v2 that broke down,

seems to be the Network card part as described by some others here.

Did manage to find a used one and moved the disks over and are now up and running again.

my question is:

What model of the current ones can I buy and move over my disks to to make sure I have a NAS with current warranty?

Or is the only soution to copy all files accross to the new NAS?

/Hans

    Hello HansC,

    Welcome to the community!

I checked your profile and found RND2000v1 registered, if this is the unit that you have, it shows no more warranty.

The disks you have used with it cannot be used with ReadyNAS OS6 units with you expecting the data to be intact. Your only option is make sure you back up the data from the disks, if you plan to purchase ReadyNAS OS6, your options are the following, I've included the main differences:

    RN102

    • 2 Bays
    • Up to 12TB of storage*
    • 1.2GHz dual core Marvell ® Armada 370 processor
    • 512MB RAM

    RN202

    • 2 Bays
    • Up to 12TB of storage*
    • 1.4GHz Dual Core High Performance ARM Cortex A15 Processor
    • 2GB RAM

    RN212

    • 2 Bays
    • Up to 12 TB of storage*
    • Quad core 1.4GHz High Performance ARM Cortex A15
    • 2GB RAM

You can use the same disks but again, we do not recommend this as we follow HCL. Initial installation of any of this NAS units need to use disks that are new and no partitions. So, you may need to factory reset the new NAS when you insert the used disks in so the NAS will format the disks to its file system format.

    Regards,

      Thanks for your replies,

well both my old ones the broken down one and the one I purchased used (and not registered on me) are out of warranty of cource. And like a new one with warrenty to feel safer.

So I buy one of the 3 recomended by you with new disks.

Then what is the smartest way to get my data over to the new one?

      Your advice is appreciated!

      /Hans

Use the backup job capability on the new NAS.  I do this share by share.  I use the rsync protocol for this - you'd need to enable that on the duo.  But the windows filesharing protocol will also work.

You can also then reverse the source/destination on these backup jobs, and schedule daily backups to the old NAS if you like.  You'd want incremental backups, so only changed or new files are copied.  With rsync you can also tell the duo to delete any files that were deleted on the new NAS.

You'll need to copy all the files across.  All the newer NAS use btrfs.

Perhaps get an RN212 with new disks and use the replacement v2 as a backup?
