RND2110 Finally Died
Hello!
Long time reader, first time poster. My trusty ReadyNAS Duo RND2110 (aka Brainiac) has finally died. T_T I think it's the power supply issue, since until a couple of weeks ago, I checked the harddrive health for both drives inside and seemed to be doing well. It has served me very well for over 2 years.
So a couple of questions. As you know the data that I have on the drives are invaluable to me. What should I do to get the data up and running. I have no issues with buying a new ReadyNAS, but also don't mind getting my current unit fixed. So should I:
- Find a way to get the unit fixed? If so, can I send it somewhere while keeping on to the harddrives?
- If I decide to buy another ReadyNAS, can I simply use the same drives I've been using and get it back up and running?
- If so, should I buy a newer and would it be compatible or should I buy the same model?
Any information on this would be helpful. I simply love my ReadyNAS and couldn't imaging working/backing up without it.

- Seems to me that your Duo has a 3 year warranty - so if you act promptly you should be able to get an RMA replacement (assuming "well over 2 years" is less than 3!
Transferring the drives would require you to purchase a Duo or NV+ V1, not the newer V2 (and not the ultra or pro line).
It is possible to recover the data from your Duo without purchasing a new unit, though it does require the right software tools. - iconsamAspirantThis is great news! Thanks for the quick reply! I will definitely try for an RMA first.
I will update this thread on the happenings of Brainiac. - PapaBear1ApprenticeWorst case scenario, a universal power adapter may work also. The power supply for the Duo is separate (a brick) and that makes it easy to change the PSU. If there are no lights at all and no fan, that's a good indication of a PSU failure.
