Did you try power-cyclng the NAS?

The preferred shutdown might fail, given your symptoms.

You were right - the preferred shutdown didn't work - the forced shutdown did. Restarted and I can now access device via web and direct with IP address. Thanks for your help on this!
(I guess as a long-time windows user I should have known to power-on/power-off)
