Snapshots (Windows Previous Versions)

Hey,

Just got a RN204 and playing with the snapshot feature.  Watching this video suggests you can access snapshots on the ReadyNAS from the Previous Versions tab directly in Windows:

When I do this, I get 'No previous versions were found'.  The video is using Windows 7, and I'm using Windows 10 Pro.  Windows 8 and 10 changed from traditional Previous Versions to File History so I'm wondering if that's the problem?

Any ideas?

Thanks

It's not working on my Win-10 systems either - just Win-7.  So it must be the file history change.

Thanks for your reply.  At least it's not something I'm doing wrong.

Hopefully NETGEAR can work something out.

  • Have you checked off the "Allow Snapshot Access" under the Snapshot setting on the share properties on the ReadyNAS?  If you don't, it will make the snapshots, but Windows can't see them.  As soon as you enable and apply they will all show there.

It will have a visible "snapshot" folder inside the folder, and the previous versions will work as it used to.  This is on my Windows 10 box at home,

Yes, I've got allw access to snapshots turned on.

I worked it out anyway.  If you re-direct a folder, say Documents to the NAS, previous version tab doesn't work.  If you browse to the share via \\nasname\share it works OK.

      Wierd...
