SSD support for 2120?
I checked the compatibility list, but there doesn't seem to be any listed support for ANY SSDs in the 2120. Are they truly unsupported?

I do know that Netgear plan to do more work on the compatibility list, as it is dated.
What SSD model / part # have you in mind? Is it mentioned in other Forum posts relating to
OS6 NAS?
Thanks, Marto - mobocracyAspirantNo specific part number picked out. We have a client with an internal resource advocating a quick-fix to some performance-related storage issues. The internal resource was advocating a QNap box with SSDs. I've used these (I even own one personally) but I think the Netgear is a better (performance and focused) product. Neither vendor though supports SSD on their supported drives list.
As they say, "it's complicated" and the better solution for this client is stepping up with an upgrade to their existing Equallogic environment; they've put this off about two years longer than they should have, always balking at the price.
Nobody wants to move forward production-wise on an unsupported product mix. I've got my own suspicions about using desktop SSD in a SAN-type environment, especially in a smaller device without the slots to support N+2 hot spares due to limitations in write wear. I'm also skeptical that the payoff for an all-SSD device will be there without making the jump to 10 gig ethernet.
I'm not sure what Netgear or other storage vendors have got planned for SSD in future releases. It'd be nice to see mixed SSD and conventional platters in the same unit with a dedicating SSD landing zone for writes background migrated to platters and SSD cached reads of frequently accessed blocks, but this is a pretty sophisticated feature mix at this price point. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredRemember the 2120 has an ARM CPU. If you don't need the rackmount form factor you'd be better off looking at e.g. the 516 or if your budget will stretch the 716.
- cpu8088Virtuoso3 days ago i installed an intel 730 480G ssd in bay 1 of my 2120
been doing read and write few times over 350G of data.
no problem encountered
noted the write speed not any better than spinning disks. read speed however is better.
