ST2000DL003 Compatibility?
Being a RNP user that is running out of space, I'm wanting to purchase new drives.
I'm interested in using the Seagate ST2000DL003 2TB drives.
These drives are not currently listed on the compatibly list.
Any word on when they might be tested?

- ferg1GuideI'm at that point. Also on a Pro6 and started using dual redundancy due to the amount of failures with this crappy drive. Should have done my homework but assumed a drive on the HCL would be reliable (4 failures in less than 4 weeks).
We're not the only ones. Seems to be a general issue with this drive:

Ferg - B52hbuffAspirantForgot to add that total uptime was less than a week...
- ferg1GuideSomething that I've noticed when these drives die is that you cannot hotswap for a working one. It seems that channel says "DEAD" and inserting a new drive does nothing. In every case I've had to reboot for the new drive to be recognised.
- ferg1GuideExcellent! As the volume resyncs with the replacement of the failed drive (4 failures) a fifth drive has failed. This truly beggars belief.
- B52hbuffAspirantWhat sort of performance are folks seeing? I did a local 'backup'
Bytes: 96844505601
Time(sec) 1640
59,051,528 Bytes/sec
472,412,222 Bits/sec
Any idea if this is fast or slow for a Pro 6? - NAS_tAspirant

Recommended procedure is:
1. Backup all data
2. Verify backup is good
3. Upgrade to latest RAIDiator (currently 4.1.7: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_7_Notes)
4. Do a System > Config Backup
5. Power down
6. Put new disks in the NAS (if removing all the disks installed in the ReadyNAS before inserting new disks, label the order of the old disks)
7. Factory default: http://www.readynas.com/forum/faq.php#How_do_I_reset_the_ReadyNAS_to_factory_default%3F
8. Restore Config Backup
9. Restore data from backup
I've been researching the various threads re upgrading/expanding to the ST2000DL003 on my Duo (4.1.8 ). It's clear that step 1 should be to backup all data - good advice for ANY hardware change to ANY kind of IT gear!
1) What's the best way to do the backup? I have tried backing up all of Volume C: to a Duo-connected USB drive using a FrontView backup job. Many hours later (> 24hrs) nothing seems to have happened. The drive light isn't flashing, and all that appears on the USB drive is a Lost and Found folder. Perhaps it's not happy doing a backup of C:, as elsewhere I have read advice to create a separate backup job for each of the Duo's shares.
I should mention that most of what I have stored on the Duo are several large Time Machine bundles.
2) Assuming that I can figure out how to do the backup, how does one "Restore data from backup"? I've read the ReadyNAS docs and asked Mr. Google, but I've been unable to discover any procedure to restore backed-up data onto the Duo once the new DL003 drives have been installed. Does one simply create a FrontView Backup job that copies everything 'in reverse'? There's no Volume C: listed in the drop-down menu for a backup job's destination, so it would seem that a backup/restore of the entire volume is not supported. - B52hbuffAspirant

I'm getting an eSata-to-Sata cable today. I'll fire up Seatools and see what it says.
Want to followup that error must have been transient. Got an eSATA dock, connected via external eSATA port and ran SeaTools for DOS. No errors detected.
Whatever it was that triggered the NAS to kick it out must have gone away? Maybe a bad connector? - ferg1GuideI've noticed this as well.
