SYS FAN fails "out of spec"
So for a while now I've been happily using a Noctua for my system fan (temps read rather high when the aircon is off) and a Zalman for a CPU fan (runs great). This is all on my RNPP (see my sig for de...

When I replaced the fan in my Pro Pioneer power supply, I chose to power it directly from one of the 4-pin power-supply plugs so I could experiment with its low-noise adapters without having to open the PSU case every time. The Noctua NF-R8 fan came with an appropriate adapter; you can find one by searching the web for 4 pin to 3 pin atx fan. Shouldn't cost more than a couple dollars.
The only thing is, if you do it that way you'll no longer have variable-speed control for your case fan, so you'll have to run it at its maximum speed (and maximum noise level) all the time.

Well, the ReadyNAS designers chose the stock fan because it provides sufficient cooling at low-enough current... And with variable-speed control, it'll probably be quieter than the single-speed Noiseblocker fan most of the time.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that it doesn't work that way. And even if it did, you wouldn't be able to lower the fan speed without overtaxing the resistive fan controller. Best to switch back to a lower-current fan like the Noctua or the stock fan.
Why'd you switch from the Noctua to the Noiseblocker in the first place? It wasn't clear to me from your initial post in this thread.
