Have you checked your disks to see if one of them is bad?
You can hook them up to your PC and test a SeaGate disk using SeaTools or a WD disk using WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics
Sorry I should have mentioned.
both the disks are working fine and it's been tested with a different disk as well, with no result...Using the upload button on the apps tab is for installing apps.
For installing firmware there is an option under System > Settings > Update to manually install a firmware update.
