Ultra 2 CPU Runs Hot
Hello,
I've been playing with my new Ultra 2 for the past couple of weeks. Everything works fine
and the speed jump from the old Duo is great. One thing concerns me though. The CPU
sits at 70 C when the unit is idle & jumps up from there under load. Disk temps are fine
(in the low 30's C). The system fan is loafing along at 800 rpm. At Netgears suggestion,
I'm now running 4.2.20-T19 but no improvement. The ambient in the room is cool and
recalibrating the fan doesn't help.
It concerns me that a CPU temp this high will compromise long-term reliability. Anyone
know how to bump-up the minimum fan speed? I'd gladly trade a bit more noise for some
peace of mind.

- Not an issue - Ultra-2 reports Junction Temp, not case temp, for CPU and can safely operate at up to 100C
- Thanks sphardy. Yeah, I know it's running "within specs" at 70 C, I was just a bit nervous given that my Atom
powered netbook runs all day and the CPU junction temp rarely gets above 45 C. In a perfect world, the Readynas
F/W would let the user choose between fan control profiles like "Max Quiet" and "Max Cooling". Maybe in a future
edition of RAIDiator perhaps.............
