Ultra 4+ vs Pro 4 / Any new products on the horizon?

Hello

I am currently running an out of warrantee NV+ and am looking to upgrade and have two questions.

1) Can anyone highlight the differences between the Ultra 4+ and the Pro 4 - they seem very similar looking down the spec tables?
2) I realise that Netgear don't publish product roadmaps for new products but does anyone have any info on new versions of the Ultra 4+ or Pro 4? I am very very reluctant to purchase a product that was first released in July 2010 in the case of the Ultra 4? Surly these units are due a refresh?

Any thoughts or advise would be very welcome. I am also looking at a Synology DS412+ as a similarly specced 4 bay prosumer unit.

Cheers

  • The big difference is the warranty - 5 years for the pro, only 3 (I think) for the ultra 4+

Secure rsync backup (rsync over ssh) and ethernet teaming support are other differences.

    You can look here: http://www.readynas.com/?cat=49
The pro 4 is in the business category, the ultra 4+ is in the home/prosumer category.

I have no idea what Netgear's plans are, but given the closeness of CES, you might want to google on any Netgear announcements there.

I'm considering doing the same. What did you end up with?
