ULTRA2: USB 3.0 HDD only works on USB2.0 port and not USB3.0
Hi, very curious thing! I just bought an ReadyNAS Ultra2. I bought it specifically for the USB 3.0 port, because the ultra2 is the only model with 1 USB 3.0 port on the frontside. However, I ...

I installed the new BIOS (it was really easy... downloaded the BIOS file and then installed it via the FrontView Add-in menu). Then I upgraded Radiator firmware to the latest. Next I swapped out the failing WD20EARS Green drive with a WD20EFRX Red drive and waited for the 8.5 hour Mirror to rebuild. That completed and so I put another WD20EARS Green drive into the USB3 enclosure, did a quick format from Windows, and then took it down into the basement. Plugged in the USB3 enclosure power supply and turned it on. Waited 20 seconds and then plugged the USB cable into the front USB3 port of my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus. Waited 20 seconds for the green light to come on above the ReadyNAS USB3 port and pressed the Backup button once. But I get the same problem... ReadyNAS says "The destination for this backup job is a USB device that is currently not connected. If it is attached, please try removing and reattaching the device. [Job 001]"
Could the USB3 port be bad? It's way late to warranty it. I'm not sure I ever used this port because once a while back I tried and got the error and didn't try again. Took my offsite backup over the network from my PC's USB3 port.
UPDATE: It seems the Backup button was programmed incorrectly by my... anyway, I went into FrontView > Backup and reconfigured the Backup 001 Job to do the whole ReadyNAS C drive Volume (is this the best way to do a full backup?) and then set the destination to the Front USB Port and saved it. Then I pressed the front USB Button and this time the backup seems to be working. So maybe all along I had just messed up the Backup program settings? Anyway, now my BIOS and Raidiator software are up to date and I have removed the failing drive. Not too hard really, just typical noob stuff. Seems there is no problem using a USB 3 drive on the front port of a ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus...
