ULTRA2: USB 3.0 HDD only works on USB2.0 port and not USB3.0

Hi,

very curious thing!

I just bought an ReadyNAS Ultra2. I bought it specifically for the USB 3.0 port, because the ultra2 is the only model with 1 USB 3.0 port on the frontside.

However, I have the following issue:
-my IOmega Blackbelt 1Tb USB 3.0 HDD is only recognized on the USB 2.0 ports on the back and not recognized in the USB 3.0 front port

As a result, I can not make fast backups to the USB 3.0 HDD, but only via USB 2.0.... :(

I have tested other USB 2.0 HDD and USB 2.0 flash and these all work (Western Digital passport 500 Gb and Kingston flashdrive).

Is this a hardware issue or a firmware issue?

Any suggestions?

What about a USB flash key? Is that recognised?

Hi. I have tried to USB flash drives. Neither are recognised in the front USB 3.0 slot. I can detect them in the rear USB 2.0 slot, however I can't browse them?

I did put the new 2TB drive into one of the rear USB slots alongside the drive already there. Works fine there but I am now getting error messages stating:

V+12 power is out of normal range [expected: 12.00 current: 11.08].

So basically the issue seems to be that the front mounted USB drive does not recognise anything i have put into it (tried 3 x USB HDDs and 2x USB FDlash drives now)

Rear USB 2.0 slots work but if I try to use 2 I get error messages regarding power range.
  • Are you using a USB powered HDD? Try one with an external power supply.
In general I found that USB 3.0 is not reliable enough to reconnect automatically a hardrive on boot. Thus I would recommend using the front USB port only for one time backup.

You could try putting a powered USB3.0 hub between the USB disk and the NAS.
