Unable to access ReadyNAS NV+ through windows
In recent days I have found myself unable to access my ReadyNAS NV+ V1 using windows. The Raidar application still finds it and I can open Frontview, but apart from that I have no access. I have ...

Would I be able to use that command to set up t: for a location local to the PC? For instance Q:\temp. Just to verify that it is access to the NAS which is causing it to fail.
Only if you set up a network share on the PC.
Muircockhall wrote:Yes, I am using a different password for admin login. I've restarted both the PC and NAS, and still no joy.
I'd double check that the SMB 1 client is still enabled on the PC. If you have internet security software running on the PC, then try disabling it.
If the password has some unusual characters in it, then you might try leaving it out in the command - you should then be prompted for it. You might also try changing the admin password again.
As a temporary measure, you could enable FTP on the NAS shares, and use FileZilla or WinSCP to access them.

Can't see a way to add more than one attachment - here is an image of the Windows Features.

Ok. You've double-checked the NAS IP address (ie, https://192.168.1.101/admin gets you to Frontview)?
Does net view \\192.168.1.101 give you a list of the NAS shares?

Hi StephenB
That returns the following message:
C:\Users\ry>net view \\192.168.1.101
System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found.

Hi StephenB ,
Just to confirm, attached is the RADar window showing the IP address.

RAIDar is showing that you are running 4.1.6 firmware - which is pretty old (2009), and might be one aspect of the puzzle. Current firmware is 4.1.16.
Do you have a backup of the files on the NAS? If you don't, it might be good to enable FTP on the NAS shares, and use FileZilla or WinSCP to copy off the data.

Hi StephenB
Good shout on the firmware. I have two USB disks which I swap periodically to do a nightly backup - means I always have one stored outside the house, and at most lose a week's worth of files. I'll connect the second of those tonight, so that I have two full backups, then do a firmware update tomorrow.
Incidentally, I don't see a way to enable FTP on the NAS shares. Could that be to do with the firmware version as well?

I'm pretty sure it was available in that release. You'd have to enable the protocol in system->standard file protocols, and then it should appear as on option on the shares page.

Hi StephenB
Success!! I can now see my shares on \\NAS. Many thanks for your help.
Here are the steps I went through:
- Updated firmware to 4.1.16.
- Frontview: Services > Standard File Protocols > 'activated CIFS' (it was disabled).
- Frontview: Shares > Share Listing > 'set each share to read/write' (was disabled).
Incidentally, after the firmware update Frontview didn't open in Firefox, as it didn't offer the login window. It did open in Chrome after I allowed it to access a non-secure address. I'm assuming I will have to change a setting in Firefox.
I still have some things to set up, as early on in this process I was having issues with Windows 10, so did a clean install, and I still have a few things to re-install, so probably not fully out the woods yet.

Great!

Try clearing the FireFox browser cache first. You'll need to click through a security warning there too.
