Unbearable FAN NOISE on Readynas NVX business edition
Hello.
We've got a 80% full Readynas NVX business edition running in x-raid2 (4.2.23) and we're just evaluating upgrade paths. We've purchased 4 higher capacity drives that are on the Netgear HCL but the one thing that's stopping us from populating the nvx with these new drives is the fan. It's so noisy! So much so that we're looking into alternative solutions that can replace the nvx. We've already read quite a few forum posts from members about their woes with fan noise but we can't find anything definitive that provides a suggestion that doesn't void the nvx's warranty. Our fan revolves (and has always revolved) around the 2k mark (currently 2014rpm) and it doesn't seem to fluctuate that much even under heavy transfers. We read that some early units were shipped with an incorrect lead configuration which meant their fans were running at 4k but that isn't the case here. We tried calibrating the fan numerous times through frontview and also by installing the ToggleSwitchProCPUFan add on (which incidentally installs but doesn't show under 'Installed Add ons' post reboot) but the rpm's have simply remained the same.
As a last ditched attempt to stay faithful to a cracking little unit which has for quite a while, provided us with a solid and dependable storage/backup solution, is there anything we can do to either alter the rpm of the fan or just make 'the hovercraft' quieter?
Thanks

- chirpaLuminaryToggleSwitchProCPUFan is only for affected Pro models, does not apply to your NVX; may even cause it to be worse.
You can try replacing the fan with a quieter model. Or if the system is still under warranty, you can contact Support to see if a replacement is available. - wideef2Aspirantthank you for the quick reply. as the add-on is not listed under installed devices is there any other way to check to see if it is still present on the nvx? better it comes off by the sound of things.
also would you have a link to where we'd need to contact support please? - chirpaLuminaryIts more a patch, not a typical add-on, so it wouldn't show in there. You can run it again to 'toggle' it back off.
http://support.netgear.com/general/contact/default.aspx - wideef2Aspirantah. we were looking on the forums for the support pages and we couldn't find anything but posts from members so thank you again. dropping them a line now
- chirpaLuminaryJabbaTheHut removed all the support links off the readynas.com site. NTGR wants to own it, but not support it.
