Update HDD Firmware within NAS
Hi, I recently purchased the NETGEAR RNDU4000 ReadyNAS Ultra 4 online with 2x F4EG HD204UI 2TB HDD's in the package. Now not to get off topic, but it's advised with these HDD's to do a firmware upgrade, because of an old bug. However I only have a laptop, no PC with casing and such. So the question is, is it possible to update the HDD's firmware while the discs are in the ReadyNAS in some way?

- unfortunately no.
- If your laptop has an eSATA connection you could use an external HDD docking station. I use the Thermaltake BlacX connected to my nettop HTPC via eSATA and it works great. I've flashed 18 HD204UI drives.

Such a dock is an excellent option, thanks!
