If you download the logs what is the date in bios_ver.log?

It sounds like your NAS decided it needed a new configuration file because of the new CPU, and that didn't go well. I'm afraid I don't know where the OS 4.2.x equivalent of /etc/systemd/system.conf is (unless maybe it's the same), but that's what controls the reported monitors in OS6.x and I assume there is one for 4.2.x as well.
I hope you realize that that that processor has a higher TDP than the original and you may end up with cooling problems. Unless you have some extensive parallel processing (like multiple PLEX streams), you likely could do as well with a Core2 Duo E7500.

Actually mdgm is helping me out, but I'm stuck trying out different USB sticks. If anyone would could mention which USB stick they used to do a usb boot, at lease it would give me a starting point.
As for the heat, it was at 32C. I believe that the middle point of the specturm. I'll keep your recommendations if I cant the xeon to work.
