Upgrade ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition (My post seems to dissappear)

Hi again guys,

I know i posted this a year ago (finally got brave and pushed into try to do an upgrade).

Is it the same procedure and are there some limit on how high (or recommended version) i can update it to?

Now its R4toR6_6.3.5.bin that seems to be the latest stable one.

Otherwise i'm will do the following:

  1. . Backup.. Backup....
  2. Check my backups...
  3. Install 1-x86.binfrom frontview.
  4. install 3.5.binfrom front view.
  5. Put all my data back and hopefully run os6.3.5

Do you anticipate any problems in the future with for example OS6.x.x updates or Apps that could become incompatible?

I'm only running:

PHP5

Mysql

Mysqladmin

Python 2.7

Jenkins

Couchpotato

PLEX

Sickbeard

SabNzbd

transmission

Logitech Media Server

MySQLBackup

(and a few websites thru Apache)

Thank you in advance and hopefully i get some more curage from all your good answers.. :smileyvery-happy:

Best regards

Hans

  • I just want to say that mdgm-ntgr and the rest of Netgear staff rock!

I followed the instructions to upgrade my old 4.x.x nas to a new 6.x.x version!

    Backup.. Backup.. Backup....
    Check my backups...
    Install PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin from frontview.
    install R4toR6_6.3.5.bin from frontview.
    restart..
Put all my data back and hopefully run os6.3.5

And it worked like a charm!

Thank you all for your great work!!

1 side note, is it possible to:

    1: have 24 hour clock

2: a app for handling cron works?? :-)

    Best regards

  • I too wish to upgrade my Pro Business and need some help.

    CPU e7600?

    Memory 4GB to 8GB?

    OS latest 4 to 6?

Seems I need a bios file so the cpu and memory is recognised, or does that come as part of the os6 firmware update?

also I'm wondering if there is any benefit from increasing from 4GB to 8GB (it was on the stock 1GB until the other day).  I will be using as an iscsi tarrgent for VCenter 5.5.  Also can I use both the nics to gain faster access?

You can use both nics (either teamed or separately).

Whether 8 GB memory has any benefit depends on the memory needs of the applications you are running.
