Upgrading CPU for my ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition
I upgraded my ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition today, only upgraded the CPU with Xeon X3230 Quad Core CPU SLACS 2.66GHz 1066MHz. Reboot and everything stated normally, the fans run as fast as possib...
That would be his prerogative. i'm sworn to secrecy, but I'm sure he's done it in the past and will do it if it comes up again.

It sounds like your NAS decided it needed a new configuration file because of the new CPU, and that didn't go well. I'm afraid I don't know where the OS 4.2.x equivalent of /etc/systemd/system.conf is (unless maybe it's the same), but that's what controls the reported monitors in OS6.x and I assume there is one for 4.2.x as well.
I hope you realize that that that processor has a higher TDP than the original and you may end up with cooling problems. Unless you have some extensive parallel processing (like multiple PLEX streams), you likely could do as well with a Core2 Duo E7500.
Actuallyis helping me out, but I'm stuck trying out different USB sticks. If anyone would could mention which USB stick they used to do a usb boot, at lease it would give me a starting point.
As for the heat, it was at 32C. I believe that the middle point of the specturm. I'll keep your recommendations if I cant the xeon to work.
i have a pro6 running xeon x3230
i changed to a new power supply and some errors like dd18, fans not spinning appeared. i switched back to the old power supply and no prob.
your problem may be contacts. just unplug and re insert the sockets from power supply to motherboard.
worth a try upgrade to os 6. am running 6.9.1 with no prob
Thanks for your concern, with the help with mdgm I now have the box running with no errors; 3C hotter than before but in the norm. I'm going to let it run like this for a couple of weeks. In the future, if it does get too hot, I'll start with more performing fans; noise reduction isn't my priority. Then I'm going to upgrade to OS6. If anyone has anything to suggest I'm all ears.
