The challenges with SMB1 are another reason to consider an upgrade.
The new models to consider would be the RN212 and the RN422. RN212 (like the duo) is a home-grade NAS with a three year warranty. The RN422 is the business-grade entry model, with a five year warranty. Although your storage needs are modest, I'd still suggest 2x4TB NAS-purposed or enterprise disks (WDC Red, WDC gold, Seagate Ironwolf or Ironwolf pro).
The built-in backup jobs are pretty similar to the duo, but there are some cloud sync options, and also resilio sync. You can also schedule backup jobs on the workstations (using windows or mac utilities), which might be a better option if the workstations aren't on all the time. For instance, FreeFileSync.
If you do use any form of sync for backup, make sure it is one-way (otherwise it can increase your risk of data loss). If one-way isn't available, you can make a local backup (to another share on the NAS), and then sync the copy.
